The Energy Animals

In Daniel Goleman’s Working with Emotional Intelligence, he describes in one of the political awareness subsections about how some people can become very politically aware, but are only aware of where power is within the organization in order to serve themselves. These people are called Energy Animals.

According to Goleman, these energy animals actually hurt themselves, because they are focused on what can be done to serve their own needs, rather than seeing the situation and people before them in a truly objective sense, thus getting a truly accurate feeling for what is going on. Energy animals become especially limited in their scope of understanding because they tune out everything which will not affect them directly and which does not directly serve their needs. Thus, their quickly and mostly accurately gained knowledge has holes in it. Their innate political awareness is not as aware as they need it to be.

In his book, Daniel Goleman presents findings that are heavily and thoroughly researched.
